We all know how much rules sometimes suck. Yet sometimes having those rules make things much more fun and interesting for those who are willing to abide by them. All the rules listed below are for the fun and enjoyment of all members on the site and they're not at all unfair. Please keep them in mind while posting, for they will be very strictly enforced. This is to keep the site full of high quality RPs and as little stupidity as possible. If you don't like them, feel free to find another forum for your RP enjoyment ^_^
Three Strikes, You're Out Policy:
• First Offense: You will be warned, and points will be taken from your house.
• Second Offense: You will be banned for a week or more, depending on the severity of the offense
• Third Offense: You will be permanently banned and your character deleted.
Posting Rules
Post Length: Your post must consist of at least 1 full paragraph (5 complete sentences) in RP areas, and at least 10 letters in non-RP areas. You may not post twice in a row. It makes things complicated and doesn't give other members the chance to respond and reduces spam!
Stay On Topic: Topics and a subject must be related. Don't jump into the middle of an RP without reading the previous posts and knowing what's going on in the thread. It's annoying for all involved when someone joins a thread and disregards everything that has happened up to that point just to say “Hi!” Try and stay on topic as much as possible.
Flaming: No flaming will be tolerated. We want this to be a friendly place. Please help us keep it that way. NOTE: Flaming is different from in-character jerkyness. If your character is mean, play him or her that way. Just keep it within reason.
Site Advertising: Do not spam or advertise your site through the private messaging system. If you want others to check out your site or become an affiliate please post in the thread we have set up especially for that reason. If you are caught spamming your board in private messages, you will not be given a warning.
Roleplaying Rules
Grammar and Spelling: Make an effort in an RP thread to keep the grammar and spelling as readable as possible. No netspeak (lol, rofl, wtf, ect...) will be allowed in RP threads, as your character wouldn't actually speak like that.
Special Creatures and Powers: You may not RP as an animagus, vampire, werewolf, seer or veela unless you have applied to become one and have been accepted. Rules pertaining to these different categories are posted here.
Apparating: There will be no apparating or disapparating allowed within the boundaries of Hogwarts and it's grounds. You may apparate outside those boundaries only if you are 6th year or higher.
Third Person: All RPs should be written in the third person. Example: “Kayleb walked into his office and sat down to work on some paperwork.” NOT “I walk into my office, sit down and start working on paperwork.”
Out Of Character: If you need to make a comment as yourself, not as your character, you should use the abbreviation “OOC” before your statement, letting everyone know that you're Out Of Character. It is also useful to put all OOC comments in parentheses to separate them. Examples: ((OOC)) - //OOC\\ - * OOC *
Spells: Try and stay as close to Harry Potter theme as possible. You may use spells that are found on Muggle Net. However, if you want to try out some made up spells, please clear them with the Headmaster or a HOH before you do so.
Respect: Respect the Headmaster, HOH, teachers and prefects as you would in a real school. If you fail to do this, you'll face the consequences.
Murder:You cannot kill another character without their permission. However, if all parties involved agree it will be allowed. NOTE: Once your character is dead it can not come back to life except as a ghost.
Horcruxes: No horcruxes will be allowed on this site. I won't have my students tearing up their souls 
God-modding:There will be no god-modding, which basically means that while roleplaying, remember that you have control of only your own character. You can have your character say or do anything that you like within the rules, but you can’t force any other character to do something without their consent.
Keep It Real: What this means is if you get punched or hit with a curse, you will get hurt. You can't dodge them all! You're not invincible. Act like a student or professor depending on what you are. Try and stay true to your house unless it seriously conflicts with your character. Gryffindors aren't usually brainiacs and Slytherins normally wouldn't go out of their way to be helpful. RP realistically, but make it fun!
Privacy: Sometimes you wanna have an RP with just a few select people. The best way to indicate this in your thread is to add *Closed* or *Privtae* to the thread title or include the names of the people allowed. Example: "A Place To Talk ((Michael and Kayleb Only))" It's good manners to not but in on threads marked Closed or Private.
NOTE: All prefects, professors, Heads of House and other authority figures will be allowed to but it on any and all threads, closed or not, if they are doing so in a disciplinary manner.
Character Rules
Cannon Characters: Hogwarts - The Later Years is set 50 years after Deathly Hallows, so it would be impossible for your character to still be attending school. If you'd like to try and play the direct descendant of a cannon (legitimate or no), clear it through the HM or HOH first.
Avatar and Banners: Avatars are 100x100 pixels or smaller and less than 16k in size. Banners must not exceed 600 pixels in length as it stretches some peoples screens. Please don't use more than 3 or 4 banners, dolls or glitter names in your sig line.
Multiple Characters: If you would like to create more than one character, clear it through the HM or HOH before creating your new account. If you make one without permission, it will be deleted.
Celebrity Look-alikes: You must request your celebrity look-alike in the Graphics Request thread. Only one person to celebrity, unless you are playing twins or you've cleared it with the HM or HOH.
